How is pebbledash removed?

Pebbledash removal is mechanical work. There's no chemical that dissolves it without damaging the wall underneath, and pressure-washing alone won't shift it. The proper method uses pneumatic chisels working across the wall in controlled sections, taking the dash and its bedding coat off together until you reach the original substrate.

The five-stage method

  • Inspection. Tap the wall to find hollow sections. Note any cracks. Decide on substrate strategy.
  • Prep. Sheet windows, doors, ground. Erect scaffold for upper floors.
  • Mechanical removal. Pneumatic chisels work the wall in panels. Debris bagged as it falls.
  • Substrate repair. Replace damaged bricks, repoint mortar joints.
  • Finish. Re-render or leave brick exposed.

Tools used

Pneumatic chisels (electric or air-powered), bolster chisels for tight spots, lump hammers, scaffolding, dust sheeting, and a skip or grab waste vehicle. The work is dusty but contained. We sheet up before any chisel comes out.
